Swimming at the Palacios YMCA Program Center managed city pool in Palacios can help people thrive. Swimming lessons provide the opportunity to set goals and achieve success, learn water safety and enjoy swimming as a form of exercise. Through swim lessons, open swim and more, the YMCA provides a safe environment for swimmers of all ages and abilities.

SWIM LESSONS

Our Red Cross certified swim lesson program teaches children, youth and adults personal safety, stroke development and rescue to develop a life-long passion for swimming and water activities.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING

2025 CLASSES ARE COMPLETE

This lifeguarding program trains lifeguards to act with speed and confidence in emergency situations both in and out of the water. To successfully complete the course, participant must complete class assignments and attendance requirements, pass the written exam and a practical water skills test.Requirements to pass:

  • Must be at least 15 years old on final day of testing
  • Swim 200 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs
  • Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds

Class Specifications:

  • Participant may choose location.
  • Must attend all sessions and at the same location to pass and receive certification.
  • Class size is minimum of 5 participants and maximum of 10 per class.

We have the space for you – welcoming people of all ages and abilities at our pools around the Crossroads. From the Port Lavaca, Bay City, Point Comfort and Palacios city pools managed by the Calhoun County YMCA to the Barbara Bauer Briggs Family YMCA pools in Victoria and Edna.

So whether you’re wanting the kids to learn about water safety or just working to stay fit and socially connected, the YMCA has a gym with pool, programs or lesson for all!
