Swimming at the Barbara Bauer Briggs Family YMCA managed city pools in Victoria and Edna can help people thrive—in and out of the water. Swim lessons provide the opportunity to set goals and achieve success, learn water safety and enjoy swimming as a form of exercise. Through swimming lessons, open swim, water aerobics and more, the Barbara Bauer Briggs Family YMCA provides a safe environment for swimmers of all ages and abilities.

At the Barbara Bauer Briggs Family YMCA, our Red Cross certified swim lesson program teaches children, youth and adults personal safety, stroke development and rescue to develop a life-long passion for swimming and water activities.

LIFEGUARD CLASSES
2024 CLASSES ARE COMPLETE
This lifeguarding program trains lifeguards to act with speed and confidence in emergency situations both in and out of the water. To successfully complete the course, participant must complete class assignments and attendance requirements, pass the written exam and a practical water skills test.
Requirements to pass:
- Must be at least 15 years old on final day of testing
- Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs
Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 30 seconds
Class Specifications:
- Must attend all meeting times in each session to pass and receive certification.
- Class size is minimum of 5 participants and maximum of 10 per class.
- Class will be held at Barbara Bauer Briggs YMCA and pools in the area.
Few things are more inviting than a bright blue, sparkling pool. At the YMCA of the Golden Crescent, we have 4 of them ready for swim lessons, water fitness, family fun and more.
From our recently renovated, kid-friendly pool at the Barbara Bauer Briggs Family YMCA to our Y managed city pools in Port Lavaca, Edna and Palacios, we have the space for you – welcoming people of all ages and abilities.
